Once more, we find ourselves in a familiar situation. With every week that the Bears lose, it becomes increasingly challenging to write this column. Nevertheless, we move forward. So, let's dive into my three bold predictions for the upcoming game against the Denver Broncos.
Justin Fields passes for over 250+ yards
I almost set the bar of aiming for over 300+ passing yards, but I wanted to be more realistic. Justin Fields has only averaged 175.3 passing yards per game in the first three games of the season. His total passing yards for the season stand at 527, placing him at 29th in the NFL, which is obviously not great. However, the upcoming game against the Broncos could be a great opportunity for him to bounce back. The Broncos currently have the worst defense in the NFL, with a grade of 40.4 according to PFF. To put this in perspective, the Bears defense is ranked 26th with a 59.2 overall grade. Somehow there is a defense worse then the Bears right now in the league. The Broncos defense also just allowed 70 points in a game vs the Dolphins. So, if Fields can't perform well against the Broncos this week, it might be the final nail in the coffin for him, even if the Bears coaching staff continues to let him down.
Bears defense gets 2+ sacks
Unfortunately, this is a concerning situation. The Chicago Bears currently have the lowest ranking when it comes to sacking opposing quarterbacks. So far, they've managed to secure just one sack in three games, and that was courtesy of Yannick Ngakoue. On the other side of the field, Broncos Quarterback Russell Wilson, has been sacked a total of 10 times in three games, which ninth most in the NFL. When it comes to the Broncos, they have the 18th best pass-blocking offensive line in the league, which means they are somewhat average at protecting the quarterback. However, their run-blocking performance is brutal, ranking 31st in the league. If the Bears can't generate pressure and secure at least a sack or two against this Broncos offensive line, I doubt they will do it at all for the remainder of the season.
Bears snap their 13 game losing streak
That's right, I'm predicting that the Bears will break their 13-game losing streak, which dates back to last season, and tie with the Broncos this Sunday.
I'm joking, but wouldn't it be hilarious if this game actually ended in a tie? Nonetheless, I still have a sliver of optimism left, and I believe the Bears might manage to secure a victory at Soldier Field this week. However, if they do end up losing, it's highly likely that they will secure the number 1 pick come next April.
