Getting a chance to work a high-profile job in the NFL has its perks. The money is always a big one. Not to mention being able to satisfy that competitive drive to achieve greatness at a profession you love. However, for somebody like Sean Desai? It goes much deeper than that. The new Chicago Bears defensive coordinator wanted his job because he loves football and loves coaching. He wants to be the best he can possibly be.
However, his motivations don't end there. For him, the motivation to be great in his new position isn't just about winning football games. It is about setting an example for others. Desai is in a unique position. He is the first Indian-American to ever hold a coaching job at such a high level in the NFL. It never really dawned on him how much of a pioneer he was or how important his efforts were. Not until his own son asked him a question that broke his heart but also caused him to redouble his efforts according to NFL.com.

That is hard to listen to.
His own son asking him if he can change his skin color just so he'll have an opportunity to do something he loves. It's another reminder that racism isn't exclusive to just one minority in the U.S. It is experienced by all of them. Indian-Americans included. That experience made Desai realize how vital it was he not only got the Bears defensive coordinator job but did everything in his power to be successful at it. This would explain why the man has been borderline obsessed with his organization and preparation during the months since his promotion. He has a plan in mind for that defense. One built around details, discipline, and toughness. They are going to make opponents feel their presence.Sean Desai is already an inspiration
Not enough people are impressed with how he got to this moment. He started out as a quality control assistant in 2013, somehow survived not one but two coaching staff purges under Marc Trestman and John Fox. Then he worked his way up to becoming safeties coach in 2019. After just two years, he's now the defensive coordinator of the Bears. One of the most prestigious jobs in the NFL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAwiFmD4mxU That is an impressive rise. Other minority coaches had to endure much longer waits for such an opportunity. That is why Sean Desai isn't stupid. He doesn't plan to waste it. Anything in his power he's capable of? He will do it to ensure the Bears defense is a success. They will be well-prepared and well-disciplined for anything. He has big shoes to fill. Desai's mentor, Vic Fangio is the one who brought it back to prominence in 2017 and 2018. Now his job is to reverse the steady decline it's been on the past couple of seasons. Something that isn't always easy to pull off. Especially for a young coach. Given the motivations he has, it might be wise not to bet against Desai. He's aiming to set an example for future generations. That carries weight.Comments
