For those who aren't familiar, a wrestling promo is a simple concept. It's when a wrestler grabs a microphone and declares to anybody who will listen that he, his tag team, or his stable are the dominant force in the business. To them it's fact and the best ones can make the fans and even their opponents believe it. Don't be surprised if Akiem Hicks gets into that business after his football career is over.
The Chicago Bears defensive end is normally a polite and humble person. He jokes around from time to time but nothing meanspirited. He normally talks about working hard and getting after it on Sunday. Something changed this past week though because he transformed into a carbon copy of "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair.
Chicago is set to play the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football on September 9th. Hicks has never beaten that team in his previous two years with the Bears. To say he's motivated to change that is an understatement. What has him so confident that this time will be different? The fact that now he'll have superstar pass rusher Khalil Mack on the same defense with him.
Akiem Hicks declares no Packers lineman can block Mack
Hicks didn't hold back during a conference call with the Green Bay media. He was asked if he knew anything about the Packers offensive line. While he didn't name names, he did have one thing to say regarding the upcoming contest.“I know those five guys can’t block Khalil Mack. You know, I really feel like this: They have to put their offensive line together however they do it and put their best product out on the field, but I don’t think their best product can block Khalil Mack."He's not entirely wrong. The Packers have seen Mack just once before. Though he didn't dominate them, they weren't able to avoid his wrath the entire game. He beat right tackle Bryan Bulaga for a sack on one play and sniffed out a play action on another, pressuring Aaron Rodgers into throwing an interception.
Though the Packers won, Rodgers had one of his worst games that 2015 season. He completed just 56.41% of his passes for 204 yards, a TD and that interception. Now he'll have to see Mack twice a year, and no longer playing in a mediocre defense either. He's joining a top 10 unit from last year. Hicks knows this and wants everybody else to know it too.
