Alan Williams Reportedly Forced Out By Bears For "Inappropriate" Behavior

It was only a matter of time before details on the Alan Williams situation came to light. His resignation cited health and family issues, while his lawyer insisted there was no criminal activity involved. Yet anybody with a brain could tell something wasn't computing about this. It was especially noticeable in how quiet the Chicago Bears were about the situation. If it actually were health problems, they would've sent the defensive coordinator off with at least a thank you. Nothing. Not a single peep.

We might finally be learning why. Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed more details about what happened. Technically, Williams' lawyer wasn't lying. There was no crime committed. However, it appears there was "inappropriate activity." It was enough to get the Bears Human Resources department involved, and they were the ones that pushed for the defensive coordinator to leave the organization. It isn't clear what the activity was, but it must've been pretty bad if the team moved that swiftly to get him out.

Usually, when that department gets involved, it most often involves cases of workplace safety. Sexual harassment is one such example. That should give you an idea of what might be going on. Keep in mind this is in the wake of the Daniel Snyder controversies in Washington, where the former owner fosters a team-wide culture of sexual harassment and degradation of women. One can imagine the Bears wanted no part of that media firestorm if they allowed anything similar. It would explain why they moved so fast to push him out.

Whatever the details are, they likely will become clearer as investigations continue. The bottom line is Alan Williams is gone, and it's probably a good thing for the Bears, both on and off the field. He wasn't doing them any favors on Sundays with his questionable play calling. Now it sounds like he was a problem behind closed doors as well. He promised he would return to coaching down the line. If whatever happened was bad enough, he might not be right about that.
