Anybody who constantly thinks about maintaining the moral high ground in professional sports should look at some of the championship teams they celebrate to this day. Plenty of them employed less than reputable characters, and willingly we might add. Why? Winning matters more than almost anything. This is the only reason that explains why the Chicago Bears continue to dodge chances to deny interest in running back Kareem Hunt.
Facts are facts. Prior to his waiving from the Kansas City Chiefs, he was established as one of the best at his position in the NFL. A reigning rushing champion who was just 23-years old and only going to get better. Then he was caught on camera shoving a woman down and kicking her at a Cleveland hotel. In the tense atmosphere of domestic violence in sports these days, it was damning evidence.
Hunt will likely be suspended by the league and compelled to go through anger management courses among other things. However, the people who think he should be kicked out of the league are kidding themselves. Players have been allowed to play for worse crimes. It's only a matter of time before somebody signs him. The question for the Bears, at least from their perspective, is do we want him playing for us or against us?

Allen Robinson has no qualms about welcoming idea of signing Kareem Hunt
That may sound cold, but that's what business is at the end of the day. There's no room for sentimentality. Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson didn't have any issue glossing over the Hunt concerns when asked about it by Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. He not only refused to decline the idea, he embraced it.“From when I met [him] and everything like that, for us to bring him into our locker room, I think guys would welcome him with open arms,” Robinson said. “He’d be one of us. … “A guy they’d bring into our locker room would be our brother.”Not much room for subtlety there. Robinson is fully aware of the talent that Hunt is and how much better he would likely make the Bears offense. The running back was the best in the NFL in 2017 when he last paired with Matt Nagy as a coach. Why would Robinson, a man who is part of one of the most clean cut locker rooms in the NFL, welcome someone with such a dubious reputation. His statement regarding the Bears' current status says it all.
“We were close. We had the talent. That’s what made it so tough.”That sounds like a man who can practically taste the Super Bowl now. The Bears were 12-4 this season with the best defense in football. If they can add another Pro Bowl talent on offense, their odds of going all the way would significantly increase. Given how tough it is to even get there, it's not a surprise people would ease up on their moral fortitude when it's so close to becoming reality.
