Anthony Miller Is Still Talking and He's Promising Big Things

The Chicago Bears made a bold maneuver back in April when they gave up their 2nd round pick in 2019 to move up from the 4th round to the 2nd round to grab Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller. Despite already being 24-years old, GM Ryan Pace and the coaching staff felt they were getting a potentially special player. A pass target with the kind of quickness, route running skill and confidence to be a stud in the NFL. Things didn't start off overly fast but since then the young receiver has begun to announce himself to the wider audiences a little more each week. In the past three games, he has 10 catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns. So far this season he's been averaging 2.7 yards of separation from defenders when making his catches. That's on the same level of Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, and Keenan Allen. The crazy thing is his numbers aren't as good as they should be. Mitch Trubisky has missed him on a number of wide open opportunities that would've produced big plays. This is an issue they're trying to get ironed out. Miller himself doesn't seem overly concerned about it. If anything, his confidence is shooting through the roof.

Anthony Miller promises he's only getting started this season and beyond

Miller has a blog he's been writing since before he entered the NFL draft back in spring. His latest entry just dropped, taking time to talk about the greatness of the Bears defense but also his own personal progress and that of the offense. One thing is for sure. He's not in the least satisfied with where things are.

"On offense— we didn’t need to generate a lot of yards thanks to our defense. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to play a bigger role and to set new career-highs in catches and yards. As proud as I am of that accomplishment, all I can really say about it is there’s more to come. I’m working hard and getting better every day. I’m going to take advantage of every chance I get, and make sure I give the coaches a reason to give me more. I will continue to play better, and I will set new highs. I’m just getting started."

He was targeted on average 3-5 times in his first four games. That number has jumped to 6-7 over the past three weeks. He's playing faster and getting open more often. Defensive backs are having a hard time locking him down. His presence in the red zone alone is being felt. To think he's just a rookie. There's no telling how much higher this thing will go as the experience continues to mount for him.
