General Manager Ryan Poles has done a complete roster overhaul since he took over in 2021. So right now, this Bears team is very young. New leaders will need to emerge and establish themselves in the locker room. Of course, you have your natural candidates such as quarterback Justin Fields and safety Eddie Jackson but rookie Tyler Scott gave a surprising answer regarding a quiet teammate who has taken on that challenge head on.
"I am going to go with Lucas Patrick. He's a guy who's been around, played for the Green Bay Packers and now the Bears. I was just talking to him the other day. Real knowledgeable guy. Real open. He's just a really good guy who's a pro and you need guys like that. Really good guy to look at on how to carry yourself."
Lucas Patrick Is The Vet On The Roster
Lucas Patrick is entering his 7th season in the NFL but is only 29 years old. However, he is now a leader on a relatively young team. The fact that rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott is already name dropping him as a guy he trusts and emulates is great for the culture of this franchise. I've always been high on Patrick since the Bears signed him last off-season and it's a shame that he got injured so early last year. It definitely limited his impact. But the fact we have him potentially coming off the bench to fill in for either an injury or if a guy simply needs a break, is such a luxury to have that the Bears could not afford last season. This team is heading in the right direction and still have a long way to go but the foundation is clearly being built in a way that is meant to last.
