Big QB News Is Potentially Great For The Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears may want to trade the #1 pick. Everybody believes GM Ryan Poles desires to do so. However, that can't be determined until the quarterback picture comes into focus. There are still too many uncertain details. The top QBs in the draft haven't gone through the scouting combine or interviews. More than that, the veteran market remains fluid. Tom Brady's retirement was a good first step in the Bears' hopes for drumming up business for the top spot. Now another update offers more hope.

Most experts would agree Derek Carr is one of the best names available going into March. The Las Vegas Raiders are prepared to move on from the Pro Bowler. That means he will either be traded in the near future or become a free agent. The big question is where he'll land. Chicago needs it to be a team that doesn't pick in or near the top 10 of the draft, such as Houston, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Carolina, and Tennessee. An update from Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football indicated there might be a current favorite to land Carr.

Carr to the Saints is perfect for the Chicago Bears.

New Orleans doesn't pick anywhere near the top 10. Their 1st round selection sits near the bottom after a deal to send Sean Payton to Denver. Carr going there would narrow the market further for any teams picking high to avoid a need to move up. Even better, it will create a sense of urgency for the Falcons (#8) and Panthers (#(#9) because this acquisition would put the Saints back in the driver's seat to resume control of the NFC South. Desperate teams often make aggressive moves.

Presuming Carr does end up there, the last three names to figure out will be Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson, and Daniel Jones. Current projections have Jackson and Jones both getting franchise tagged by their current teams. That leaves Rodgers. He has kept his future in Green Bay a mystery. It is possible he could retire or return to the Packers for one more season, but most believe he is likely getting traded.

The two most heavily rumored landing spots are the Raiders and New York Jets. Current rumblings hint the latter would be the favorites. If that holds true, the Chicago Bears will be in the perfect position to auction off that #1 pick to the highest bidder. Of which there should be several.
