Chicago Bears Targeting Their First Big Assistant Coaching Hire

Matt Eberflus isn't wasting time putting together his assistant coaching staff. Say this for the man. He already lured a quality name to the Chicago Bears. After losing special teams coordinator Chris Tabor to the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, no time was wasted in replacing him as the Bears are targeting Rich Bisaccia in that same role according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Somebody that Eberflus worked with for five season with the Dallas Cowboys. Bisaccia is a familiar name lately. He had to take over as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after Jon Gruden was forced to step down midseason over some ugly comments he made in emails while working at ESPN. Despite everything, Bisaccia rallied the team to make the playoffs for only the second time since 2002. Many felt he did enough to earn the job permanently but Raiders ownership decided to go in a different direction.

Their loss would be the Bears' gain.

Bisaccia knows what he's doing too.

The Raiders special teams ranked 11th this past season in the NFL and had one of the best kicking and punting units in the league. They were 4th in field goal % and first in punt average. Not to mention 9th in punt return average. The man has been a special teams coordinator dating all the way back to 2002 when he won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since then he's found success everywhere he's stopped. If nothing else, the Chicago Bears should know one thing. They will have found themselves another excellent leader. Players rave about him in Las Vegas and are campaigning for him to get the head coaching job. His ability to rally that team made it clear how good of a coach he is.
