Chicago Bears Will Gamble on Sitting Mitch Trubisky One More Time

Mitch Trubisky practiced in a limited fashion on Wednesday, which offered a sliver of hope that the Chicago Bears starting quarterback could play Sunday in New York. However, it seems head coach Matt Nagy had planned from the start to dash those hopes. Despite an ongoing push from Trubisky himself, it appears the plan is to sit him against the Giants in favor of backup Chase Daniel according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The reasoning behind the move isn't hard to understand. Trubisky has an injury to his throwing shoulder. That's always something dangerous to handle, especially in the long-term. Nagy is being cautious, just like he was with Khalil Mack and Allen Robinson earlier in the year. He certainly has reason to feel confident. The Bears are 3-0 in games where Mack, Robinson, or Trubisky have sat. New York is 3-8 this season and 1-4 at home. Daniel should be able to handle matters.

Even with such optimism, this is a big gamble by Nagy. While he has the superior team on paper, this game is far less of a gimme without Trubisky on the field. The Giants have a lot more offensive firepower than the Lions did last week with Odell Beckham and Saquon Barkley leading the charge. New York's biggest defensive weakness is against the run and Chicago hasn't run the ball well all year. It just feels like one of those games that could easily get away from them. If they lose? Then they face the prospect of being 8-4 with the final four games including the Rams, Packers, and Vikings. L.A. is 10-1. Green Bay beat the Bears earlier this year and they haven't won in Minnesota for seven years.
