Cordarrelle Patterson is an easy guy to like. The Chicago Bears signed him primarily to improve their kick return game. This he has done, thrusting them into the top 5 rankings this season. He's also one of their best special teams players overall. A constant presence that finds the football. Despite being paid a lot of money for a guy in his position, it's clear he is proving worth every penny. On top of that, the guy also seems to just have a natural way of connecting with fans.
One of his favorites is going out before every game and playing catch with them during warmups. Plenty of fans have gotten to enjoy this rare experience that a lot of NFL players would never even think about. However, some didn't quite have the one expected. Take last Sunday. As the Bears warmed up before the Giants game, Patterson came out to do his usual routine. Things started out normally enough.
Then he decided to really stretch out the shoulder when he fired a ball to the upper deck. One fan wearing a Walter Payton jersey seemed to lose sight of the ball in the air, either due to the sun or simply poor vision. He turned around, expecting it to land in the seats behind him. That's when the ball nailed him square in the back of the head.
That was a thing of beauty. Maybe the Bears should give Patterson a few snaps under center from time to time. He's big, can run, and clearly has a nice arm. What have they got to lose at this point?
