Danny Trevathan has never gone this long without any sort of formal football activity. Sure he's had to rehab injuries but this is different. The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically altered the NFL landscape like never before. Something he wasn't ready for. What hurts the most is not being able to get on the actual practice field to do anything in an organized fashion. To work and communicate with his teammates.
Even as training camp has started, the actual on-field activities have not. It's been strictly walkthroughs. While those are necessary to help guys get up to speed, Trevathan admitted in a recent Zoom meeting with the media that it isn't quite scratching the itch.
Remember Chappelle's Show? For those who somehow don't, it was a classic sketch comedy series on Comedy Central hosted by Dave Chappelle. In it he created a cast of memorable character. Perhaps none more so than Tyrone Biggums, who was a crack addict identified by his snow white lips and constant scratching at his neck.
That is basically who Bears players are starting to look like with no practices according to Trevathan.

Trevathan admitted that he did some hard thinking about whether or not he should play this year. Several NFL players chose to opt out of 2020 over COVID-19 concerns. With an asthmatic wife and also kids to think about, he knew he had to take it seriously. In the end, the linebacker decided he was willing to take the risk. Both for his love of football and also knowing the team is taking every precaution possible to keep him safe.
They're going to need him. With Eddie Goldman opting out, the Bears run defense just got weaker. So the inside linebacker tandem of Trevathan and Roquan Smith will be required to do even more. Trevathan is on a mission to carve out his own legacy in Chicago. No virus or opponent is going to stop him from doing that.
