Green Bay Packers fans must really be hating 2021 right about now. It started in the worst possible fashion with watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat their beloved team at Lambeau Field in the NFC championship. Something made worse by the fact that Tampa won the Super Bowl going away two weeks later. In all honesty? Looking back they probably would've been happy with just that rather than what Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams had in store for them.
Rodgers kicked things off in April when the news broke that he would not be returning to the team until further notice. The reason cited being an ongoing beef with Packers management. He has since missed both OTAs and minicamps for the first time in his career. This despite Green Bay trying to lure him back with a contract extension that would've made him the highest-paid player in the NFL.
Now Adams is taking his turn.
Things started going south a couple of months ago when the superstar receiver stated he'd have to rethink his desire to stay in Green Bay if Rodgers weren't there. It got even worse when he didn't deny his intrigue at the idea of reuniting with former college teammate and best friend Derek Carr in Las Vegas. Now Ian Rapoport put on the finishing touches by revealing that Adams and the Packers have broken off talks for a contract extension.Things couldn't possibly get much worse for the Packers. They went from a Super Bowl favorite after the end of last season to suddenly facing the very real prospect of losing their two best players in the near future. Rodgers might already be gone and Davante Adams is a free agent after this season. He wants to be the highest-paid receiver in the league and honestly has more than enough leverage to make such a demand. Green Bay though has massive salary cap problems facing them in 2022. So this isn't something that can be easily fixed.
