Matt Nagy has a lot to be upset about. Ever the competitor, the fact the Chicago Bears came up short of making the playoffs is clearly eating at him. Hence why he made it clear to anybody who asks that the team isn't just going to fold the tent and move on to 2020. They will continue to battle and look to finish strong. However, his agitation wasn't reserved to just the team's win-loss record. It's important to remember that Nagy is a highly personable coach. One who forges relationships with his players.
So it was a given that the Chicago media asked him his thoughts on the Bears Pro Bowl selections for this 2019 season. Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson, and Cordarrelle Patterson made the main roster while Eddie Goldman, Kyle Fuller, and Tarik Cohen became alternates. The head coach couldn't be prouder of their success. However, when the topic of wide receiver Allen Robinson not even being mentioned came up? The emotions boiled over for just a moment.
"I'll just say this, A-Rob is a pro. I'll just leave it at that. A-Rob, he's special. A-Rob, he's unbelievable. Unbelievable. That word 'snub.' A-Rob is unbelievable and needs to be in the Pro Bowl."
Matt Nagy understands what Robinson meant this year
A coach standing up for a player is nothing new, but Nagy's emotion in that statement comes from the reality of 2019. The Bears had one of the worst offenses in the NFL, ranking near the bottom in every notable category. Thing is? It would've been so much worse without Robinson. The 26-year old receiver was the steadying presence in the story, going for 1,023 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games. Other receivers may have better stats, but they didn't face near the problems that Robinson did.
Not even getting recognition as an alternate is the height of disrespect.
