Events Out East May Help Chicago Bears Add Even More At WR

The Chicago Bears have been relatively quiet on the veteran market lately. Part of that is their shifting to preparations for next month's NFL draft. However, another part might be GM Ryan Poles waiting to see if any interesting veteran names pop loose from other teams. It almost always happens around this time of year. One has to look no further than the New York Jets. They already signed veteran receiver Allen Lazard, no doubt in preparation for the anticipated arrival of Aaron Rodgers.

However, it appears Gang Green might not be done. They then signed former Kansas City Chiefs speedster Mecole Hardman. This prompted them to trade former 2nd round pick Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns. He might not be the only one whose job is in jeopardy. According to Connor Hughes of SNYtv, there are significant rumblings that New York is making a strong push to sign Odell Beckham Jr. He and Rodgers have a friendship. They've wanted to play together for years. It appears they're close to making that a reality.

If so, then one other receiver might be on his way out soon. That is Corey Davis.

The Chicago Bears should have an interest in Davis.

He spent the past two years in New York. While never living up to the large contract they gave him, he's still managed over 1,000 yards in 22 games despite atrocious quarterback play. He's 6'3 with good body control and underrated speed. He is also still only 28 years old. Davis can be a quality contributor to any team that wants him. The Bears should be interested. For one, he was originally drafted by former Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson. Poles seems to have a liking for players with that label. New arrivals Nate Davis and Dylan Cole can attest to that.

Then there is the fact that Davis was born in Wheaton, Illinois, less than an hour outside Chicago. It's his hometown. It isn't a stretch to think he might love the prospect of playing for the team he grew up watching. His addition would suddenly give the Chicago Bears a foursome of him, D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool. That would be by far the deepest receiving corps this organization has had in years, maybe the entire Super Bowl era.
