Ex-Bears Coach Can't Believe What He Saw From D.J. Moore During OTA Visit

Dave Wannstedt has followed the Chicago Bears for many years. He was their head coach for most of the 1990s and later became a prominent analyst of the team after retiring from coaching. He's seen what this organization has put forward at wide receiver over the year. Wannstedt coached some pretty good ones like Curtis Conway and Jeff Graham. He also watched Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery during their brief peak in 2013 and 2014. The Bears haven't had many good receivers over the past decade, which is why he was interested to see if D.J. Moore was worth the hype.

The former coach was allowed to attend Bears OTAs this week, spending time talking with Matt Eberflus, Ryan Poles, and others about the direction of the team. He saw plenty to be encouraged about. Teven Jenkins and Braxton Jones both looked excellent in mobility drills for the offensive line. Rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson already looks like a starter. However, it was Moore who stole the show. Wannstedt proclaimed without preamble on 670 The Score that the newly-acquired weapon is the best this organization has had in years.

D.J. Moore hasn't taken long to mesh with Justin Fields.

He and the young quarterback have already connected for some big plays multiple times in practices. Moore badly burned Kindle Vildor twice with double moves and turnstiled Kyler Gordon with some filthy route-running. He was instrumental during a two-minute drill earlier this week. Fields' confidence appears to be growing with each practice they have together. What's crazy is the Bears' offense isn't even at full strength. Darnell Mooney still hasn't returned from his ankle injury last year.

There is no telling how good this passing attack could get at this rate. People wondered if D.J. Moore might have the same impact in Chicago that Stefon Diggs did in Buffalo. Josh Allen took his game into the stratosphere when the Bills traded for the Pro Bowler. Maybe Moore is getting ready to do the same for Fields. That would be something Bears fans have waited for going back decades. It would also put Poles in line for pulling off one of the best trades in recent team history.
