Former Super Bowl Champ Fears Mitch Trubisky is Too Soft

Mitch Trubisky is fighting for his professional life right now. A lot of people want him out as starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Not a surprise given how incredibly ineffective he's been. The guy hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in two-straight games and only has five in total through seven starts. This has started an avalanche of criticism from both the media and fans alike that he can't hack it as a starting NFL quarterback. Matters were made worse at his most recent press conference.

Trubisky stated his wish that he could get a lot of TVs in and around Halas Hall turned off because he's tired of hearing the criticism about his team. While the comment itself was meant a little tongue-in-cheek, his willingness to admit it so openly was a bit jarring. This seemed to suggest to some that the 25-year old isn't capable of handling the pressure that comes with being a starter in the NFL.

One guy who wasn't a fan at all of Trubisky's answer was Damien Woody. The former Pro Bowl guard who won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots was aghast when he heard about it and stated on ESPN's "Get Up" that Trubisky might be a little bit too soft to play this game.

Is Woody correct? Is Trubisky soft? Well, it's hard to answer that question with a definitive no at this point. Everything people have watched this season shows a quarterback who has lost his confidence. He's playing scared and seems to question every decision he makes rather than just playing the game. He does indeed look like a player who is letting the "noise" from the outside get to him, even if he may deny it.

The only way Trubisky can start to convince people including Woody that this isn't the case is simple. Play better. He has to start pulling his weight on offense because that's the only prayer the Bears have to get back into the thick of the NFC. He must find a way to elevate his game enough to where the offense can score points and ease the pressure on an overworked defense. Until that happens, this sort of perception that he can't take the heat will remain.
