The Chicago Bears are currently tied with the Green Bay Packers for the best record in the NFC North at 3-1. That makes their games this coming Sunday important. Chicago has suffered its fair share of injuries lately, quarterback Mitch Trubisky being the most significant to date. However, it seems the Packers are dealing with their own problems. On the heels of their first loss of the season against Philadelphia, they've now learned that they will play the 3-1 Dallas Cowboys without their second-best player.
Wide receiver Davante Adams left the Eagles game early. He was later diagnosed with turf toe. This is a sprain of the big toe joint that can become extremely painful due to players constantly bending the toe upward. Further actions like this could lead to damaging the bone beneath the cartilage. Suffice to say, this is not something that can simply be playing through without significant discomfort.
It would appear the Packers are left with no choice. Word has filtered out that Adams is unlikely to play this weekend. Not ideal considering the Packers will play the 10th ranked Cowboys pass defense. Especially considering Adams has accounted for no less than 35.36% of the Packers' entire passing game. There's no getting around it. It's a huge loss and one that won't be easy to overcome.
Green Bay Packers starting to show cracks in foundation
Everybody was ready to declare the Packers back among the best in the NFC. Now it seems the problems are surfacing all at once. Their running game, despite a change at head coach, is still relatively non-existent. Rodgers, for all his brilliance, has leaned heavily on Adams for most of the offense's big plays. If that weren't bad enough, the defense was exposed by Philadelphia for having one of the worst run-stopping units in the league. A unit that's about to face the Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott.
Not ideal.
This doesn't mean they'll suddenly become a terrible team, but it at least presents a big opportunity for the Bears. They play the Raiders in London this weekend. A winnable game in many respect, even without Trubisky. If they can handle their business, they will head into their bye week at 4-1. If things go as bad as it's looking for the Packers against Dallas, Chicago may suddenly grab hold of first place in the division.
