Growing Draft Rumor Is A Perfect Setup For Chicago Bears

Shortly after the Chicago Bears traded down to 9th overall in a deal with Carolina for the 1st pick, rumors circulated that GM Ryan Poles might be laying the groundwork for another move down. Poles himself even hinted at it during his recent presser. It's clear he isn't opposed to moving down again. It comes down to whether he gets the right offer. To make that happen, the Bears would need a strong piece of bait for another team to come up and get. As everybody knows, nothing lures teams more than quarterbacks.

The problem is most people believe all four of the top options will be gone within the first five or seven picks next month. Two are locks for #1 and #2 with Carolina and Houston. Indianapolis is taking another at #4. That leaves maybe Las Vegas and Seattle as landing spots for the final one. Except one prominent analyst isn't seeing it that way anymore. Daniel Jeremiah is the lead draft guru for NFL Network and a former scout. He's well-connected in the industry. So it was eye-opening when he had Kentucky quarterback Will Levis falling all the way to the 19th pick in his latest mock draft.

He then clarified that he doesn't expect Levis to fall that far but stated he believes the QB could slip to where a team will move up to snag him.

This scenario serves the Chicago Bears perfectly.

It is possible. Indianapolis may favor Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. Seattle won't take a QB despite the rumors. At least not at #5. They secured Geno Smith on a new contract. Las Vegas secured a multiyear contract with Jimmy Garoppolo, so a QB seems less likely at #7. That leaves Atlanta at #8. It's possible, but they seem interested in giving Desmond Ridder another year to prove himself after some promising signs in 2022. That means Levis would be there at #9.

What makes it such an advantageous spot for the Chicago Bears is that the Tennessee Titans will be sitting there at #11. Everybody knows they need a quarterback. Getting in front of them will be crucial. Teams to watch in such a situation would be Washington (#16), Tampa Bay (#19), and even Baltimore (#22) due to the Lamar Jackson fiasco. Poles could field offers and perhaps get yet another high draft pick for his growing inventory. Jeremiah believes there is still a strong possibility that one of the top offensive tackles will also be available in that range.

It makes way too much sense.
