At this point in times, everybody knows the situation. The Chicago Bears are never going to betray who they may or may not like heading into the draft. That's been the practice of GM Ryan Pace since he took over. Secrecy above all else. That's why the picks of players like Mitch Trubisky and Leonard Floyd came as such shocks when they happened.
So one can expect that this year will be even more of a mystery. That's because not only do the Bears no had a top 10 pick for the first time since 2014. They don't have a pick in the first two rounds at all. This makes it beyond difficult because there's simply no telling which players will be available when they finally go on the clock late on Day 2.
Still, that hasn't stopped several prominent experts and sites from giving it a shot. Not many mock drafts out there have yet ventured beyond the 1st round, but those that have paint a fairly clear picture of which direction the Bears might go. Here's a list of all the notable experts who ventured their predictions.
- NFL.com - Joejuan Williams (CB, Vanderbilt)
- WalterFootball - Oshane Ximines (EDGE, Old Dominion)
- SB Nation - Amani Hooker (S, Iowa)
- DraftSite - Lorenzo Neal (DT, Purdue)
- USA Today - Damien Harris (RB, Alabama)
- Fansided - David Montgomery (RB, Iowa State)
Chicago Bears expected to go either running back or defense
While no singular name jumped out multiple times, there's at least a common theme among the picks. Experts seem convinced that the Bears will do one of two things. Either they will take advantage of a deep draft class to load up further on their already great defense. Or they will take a shot at finding Matt Nagy a running back who better fits his offensive scheme. There is plenty of logic in those predictions. The question is which of those selections could be viewed as the best. A lot of it depends on what happens with free agency. Both Bryce Callahan and Adrian Amos remain unsigned. If one or both leave, their respective positions at nickel corner and safety become instant areas of concern. So Joejuan Williams and Amani Hooker would be names to watch. Williams is a 6'3 corner from Vanderbilt with size, athleticism, and ability to play physical press coverage. Hooker is an instinctive, tough safety with good ball skills but concerns about his average speed. Either would be quality additions at #87. This next month will offer a ton of clarification.Comments
