One of the metrics I really like using is Pro Football Focus. While their grading system isn't flawless, they do an excellent job and are consistently improving each season. So here are the highest and lowest graded Bears players from the second preseason game against the Colts.
Highest Grades On Offense:
RT, Larry Borom: 91.1
Larry Borom played in 31 snaps during the game against the Colts. Among these, he was involved in 19 pass blocking plays and 12 run blocking plays. His pass blocking performance was scored at 80.9, while his run blocking was even more impressive at 92.8. This solid performance was particularly noteworthy for a player who was in need of such a showing.
QB, Tyson Bagent: 86.3
Tyson Bagent's legend keeps growing. After just 20 plays, the Bears coaching team decided they had seen enough, so Bagent didn't play in the second half. His stats were impressive: he completed 9 of 10 passes for 76 yards (7.6 yards per attempt) with a rating of 98.3. Additionally, he rushed twice, gaining 4 yards and scoring a touchdown. Bagent ranks as the fourth-highest graded QB in the entire preseason.
LT, Kellen Diesch: 82.5
Kellen is entering his second year in the NFL. He joined the Bears in September 2022 and stayed on their practice squad. Against the Colts, he played 36 snaps, which was the eighth-highest on the team. His pass blocking was better, with a score of 82.2, compared to his run blocking at 81.6. Across two games and 45 snaps, Diesch has only allowed one pressure.
WR, Daurice Fountain: 76.1
Fountain had a big performance against the Colts. He caught 5 passes on 6 targets, for 86 yards and a TD. The WR room for the Bears is crowded, but Fountain should certainly be given an opportunity, even if it means joining a different team.
RT, Robert Haskins: 73.5
In May, the Bears signed Haskins, who went undrafted. Haskins performed well in pass blocking vs the Colts, earning a grade of 80.3. However, his performance in run blocking was much lower at 69.0. He hasn't allowed any sacks, pressures, or hits in the 15 snaps he's been in pass-blocking. He might end up on the practice squad, but he's a good find by Poles who continues to take swings in the trenches.
The next five highest graded players:
QB, Nathan Peterman: 73.0
RG, Logan Stenberg: 70.7
HB, Roschon Johnson: 67.4
HB, D'Onta Foreman: 66.9
WR, Dante Pettis: 65.0
Lowest Grades On Offense:
WR, Equanimeous St. Brown: 38.2
St. Brown had a single target against Indy, but dropped the pass. It's important to note that he only played in 9 snaps but given the competitive WR room, he must show that he can contribute beyond just blocking.
QB, P.J. Walker: 43.8
There isn't a lot to talk about here. Walker just hasn't lived up to the expectations people had when Chicago signed him this offseason. It will be interesting to watch how the situation unfolds in the quarterback room behind Justin.
WR, Nsimba Webster: 51.9
TE, Lachlan Pitts: 52.2
FB, Robert Burns: 52.3
Highest Grades On Defense:
ED, Terrell Lewis: 91.5
During the first two preseason games, Terrell Lewis is really standing out. He's managed to create 4 QB pressures, resulting in three sacks and forcing two fumbles. Despite being a third-round pick in the 2020 draft, he's showcasing his potential and making a strong argument for securing a spot on the 52-man roster.
ED, D'Anthony Jones: 79.1
Yet another edge rusher earns a spot on the list. Jones managed 3 QB pressures against Indy, bringing his preseason total to 7. However, he's also committed a penalty in each game, which Flus and the team will definitely want him to work on and improve.
LB, Jack Sanborn: 79.1
Sanborn stated in this game, but only participated in 13 plays. He ended up with 3 tackles and 1 defensive stop. It's weird he was even suited up for this game, but nonetheless he made an impact during the short time he played.
ED, Trevis Gipson: 78.4
While Gipson's performance against Indianapolis wasn't as impressive as his game against Tennessee, he still did well. He managed to create 4 pressures on the quarterback and landed one hit. Against the Titans, he played for 44 snaps, but against the Colts, he played just half that with 21 total snaps. This seems to suggest that the coaching staff recognizes his impact and is likely to include him in the final roster.
CB, Kindle Vildor: 76.9
As year 3 begins, Vildor is having a solid preseason. He had a coverage grade of 75.0, and in the first two games, quarterbacks have a rating of 79.2 when throwing towards him. Overall, not too shabby.

LB, Davion Taylor: 45.1
