Ideal Chicago Bears Trade Target Is Now Reportedly Cheaper

At last the Mitch Trubisky era is set to begin. The excitement for fans is palpable, and with good reason. The rookie might be the most gifted quarterback the franchise has drafted in the Super Bowl era. Yes even more so than Jim McMahon. With that realization comes hope. Does that include 2017? At 1-3 the team is not entirely out of the picture, but few people have any illusions. Then again could a Chicago Bears trade target change that? Perhaps the biggest thing holding people back isn't Trubisky himself. Yes he's a rookie but he's shown he can make some plays and protect the football. The problem lay with his arsenal of weapons, or lack thereof. Chicago has two excellent running backs in Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen. The offensive line has allowed the seventh-fewest sacks in the league. Their tight ends have also shown they can be productive pass catchers. It's the wide receivers. Kendall Wright? Markus Wheaton? Josh Bellamy? Not the most inspiring group to start an NFL career with. It's led to many wondering if there is any possible way to seek out help on the trade market.

Chicago Bears trade target Jarvis Landry price may have lowered

Mike Sandoval of ESPN listed out his top potential trade candidates for the upcoming deadline on October 31st. Perhaps the biggest name on that list is wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The 24-year old, two-time Pro Bowler was reportedly made available this offseason. Teams likely begged off though due to lingering issues with a domestic violence incident he's connected to. Charges were never pressed but it's unclear whether the NFL will still discipline him. There's also the fact he's expected to demand a considerable pay day next year as a free agent. Money they aren't prepared to give up. At the same time it's speculated the price for him may drop to a point where it could be worth the risk. Especially for a receiver-needy team like the Bears.

"There were reports in August that the Dolphins were shopping Landry after failing to reach a contract extension with him heading into the final year of the receiver's rookie deal. An exec confirmed that report, saying the Dolphins offered the receiver for a veteran cornerback. This exec thought a second-round pick could be the value -- a price he would not pay. What if the Dolphins sought only a third-rounder? "That is interesting," the exec said. "That is a good conversation. I would have it."

Bears may have a way to find middle ground with Dolphins

Landry has over 1,100 yards each of the past two years. He's quick, fast and dangerous with the ball in his hands. However, it's clear he's not the best fit for new quarterback Jay Cutler. A man who's historically preferred bigger targets. That might explain why Landry's targets have steadily gone down the past three games. To date he only has 166 receiving yards. The problem is the Bears already surrendered their 2018 third round pick in the trade for Trubisky back in April. So they have two options. They either give up their 2019 third rounder, which wouldn't be ideal since Miami could just get one of those as a compensatory pick when he leaves. Or they could offer a player with a later pick attached. As stated earlier the Dolphins are in the market for cornerback help. Chicago has a solid foursome of veterans including Prince Amukamara, Marcus Cooper, Kyle Fuller and Bryce Callahan. The Bears giving up one of them and a late round pick for Landry might be worth the short-term loss in the secondary. The long-term gain of pairing him with Trubisky would more than balance things out.
