Mitch Trubisky watched three years of tireless work go down the drain in Atlanta. It's rather fitting that an ill-advised throw to Jimmy Graham that got intercepted might be the last snapshot Chicago Bears fans have of him. A quarterback with tons of talent who just couldn't figure out how to read defenses.
Debates about whether he can be a long-term starter have now shifted. It's now whether people should classify him as a draft bust. Given what the Bears gave up to get him and who they passed on as a result? It isn't hard to see that argument. At the same time, this is a franchise that witnessed guys like Cade McNown at quarterback. So bust might be a bit harsh.
That said, there is the matter of his future. Do the Bears have any sort of plans for him beyond 2020 at this point? Not according to insider Ian Rapoport. As far as Matt Nagy and this coaching staff are concerned, Trubisky is finished in Chicago.
"From what I understand, Rich, is the coaching staff wants this to be something for the season. In other words do not expect, barring some sort of unforeseen circumstance, Mitch Trubisky back in the starting lineup for the Bears. Which means after the season, he will be a free agent."
