Khalil Mack may have his focus diverted to helping the Chicago Bears win football games lately, but that hasn't stopped the star pass rusher from getting an early start to the holiday season. Everybody has their own methods for how they wish to give back to the community. Most athletes like giving to certain charities. Former running back Warrick Dunn is famous for helping to provide families with new homes.
Mack chose to go about it in his own way. How? Apparently he decided to surprise a ton of families down in his hometown of Fort Pierce, Florida by paying off all the layaway accounts of the local Walmart. According to CNN, there were 300 of them, which cost in the vicinity of $80,000. Mack may have gotten some heat for his rather private attitude towards people in recent months but this proves the man goes about generosity in his own way.
The store in Fort Pierce, Florida, Mack's hometown, shared the news on Facebook on Friday.
"We here at Walmart would like to thank the Khalil Mack Foundation for your generosity, and for making so many families happy for the holidays!" they said. "Everyone is truly [grateful] for everything you have done for them!"
A representative from Mack's foundation came to the store and asked to be a "secret Santa," according to the store manager, Mathias Libardi. The payment covered all the store's 300 holiday layaway accounts.
