Khalil Mack was the best player on the Chicago Bears defense in 2019. He had 8.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. That is a really good season. Yet a lot of people came away disappointed. They felt he underachieved. This despite often being double or triple-teamed and playing hurt. He didn't get much help when rushing the passer. Especially after Akiem Hicks went down.
True to his personality though, Mack didn't say anything about it. Nobody knows what the man was thinking after the season ended. His position coach knows. Ted Monachino, the Bears outside linebackers coach, met with the media for the first time this offseason. He talked about the addition of veteran Robert Quinn and how it should make the entire defense better.
Then he turned to Mack. That's when he revealed the lowdown. The Bears star is motivated. Extra motivated and is training like it.

It's not like Mack didn't work hard before. One of the reasons he's been so dominant as a player is his relentless training regimen. Yet it sounds as if he decided to take things to a new level. Putting his body through a regimen to rival the U.S. Marines or something. It's probably not a lot of fun but rest assured Mack doesn't mind it. That is because the ends will justify the means.
The ends being the total destruction of every offensive tackle that gets in his way. Experts have predicted a big year from the Bears star. Some seeing him get upwards of 14-15 sacks. Knowing his newfound motivation combined with the arrival of Quinn? That is starting to feel less like a possibility and more like a certainty. The media and critics decided to poke this bear one too many times.
Now he's coming to wreck their homes.
