Las Vegas Is Now Praying Mitch Trubisky Doesn't Win MVP

Las Vegas sports books thought they 'd tease the Chicago Bears when they had Mitch Trubisky as a name on their list of potential MVP winners. However, it appears they made a mistake. By setting the betting line at 200-1, they had no idea they were inviting a massive surge of people willing to lay down some serious cash on those odds. Since then the number has drastically dropped, but it appears the damage was done.

While the top booking experts refuse to believe Trubisky has an actual shot at the award, they unquestionable fear it happening. As things stand now, if he were to accomplish the improbable feat it would end up costing the casinos and booking agencies hundreds of thousands of dollars. Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune spoke to Jay Kornegay, vice president of race and sports book operations about it.

Apparently, measures have already been taken to curb the potential loss he and many others would suffer if this occurs.

At Caesars in mid-June, Trubisky was listed at 75-1. Now, “he is 30-1 and is far and away our biggest liability,” Jeff Davis, director of trading, said via email.

Added Kornegay: “It was right from the get-go there was a lot of interest in Trubisky at 200-1. That has really continued to a point where he is by far our biggest liability to win the MVP.

“When you’re giving out 200-1 odds, it doesn’t take much to create the liability. As it rolls in and you’re accumulating hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars at 200-1, next thing you know you have a mid-six-figure liability attached to Trubisky. And that’s the last thing I want to do is lose six figures on the NFL MVP.”

Obviously, Trubisky himself isn't focused on MVP. His goal is a Super Bowl championship. The Bears have far better odds to go the distance than he does to win that award. One of the primary reasons bettors are skeptical he can is because of the serious stats it would take to do so. According to recent calculations based on previous MVP winners, Trubisky would have to throw for almost 4,600 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just 9 interceptions to have a legitimate shot at the honor.

No Bears QB in history has come remotely close to either of those first two numbers. In fact, none have even cracked 30 touchdown passes in a season, let alone 40. So Trubisky would have to venture into the great unknown in order to accomplish such a feat. Most in Vegas don't believe he has the firepower around him to do it. Sure he has Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, and Anthony Miller. However, none of those players could be called stars.

Not like Patrick Mahomes had in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in Kansas City last year. So Trubisky will need those guys around him to do a little proving of their own in order to get him to the finish line.
