The Chicago Bears have several reasons why they're 4-7. One that sits at the forefront of everything is health. They've been a banged-up football team. Especially in the past couple of months. Right tackle Germaine Ifedi remains out. Khalil Mack and Danny Trevathan are on Injured Reserve. Akiem Hicks suffered groin and now ankle issues. Even their quarterbacks can't stay healthy. Andy Dalton suffered a bone bruise and Justin Fields is dealing with cracked ribs.
It is hard to win football games when your best players either can't play or clearly aren't 100%. As if the news wasn't bad enough going into a do-or-die game against the top-seeded Arizona Cardinals, the Bears got hit with an additional blow. Their Wednesday injury report was an ugly one. No fewer than eight players failed to practice including Hicks, Allen Robinson, and Roquan Smith. Yet the big surprise was tight end Cole Kmet who suddenly popped up with a groin issue.
Not the best timing if this is serious.
This means there is a possibility either Dalton or Fields will be playing on Sunday without two of their top three pass targets. Robinson hasn't played since the Pittsburgh game where he suffered his hamstring issue. This Kmet problem didn't happen against Detroit last week, which means it must've popped up during practice at some point. That would be a crushing setback, both for the player and the Chicago Bears offense. Kmet is third on the team with 361 yards receiving this season. He has played some of his best football over the past three games. Somebody who is coming into his own. If he and Robinson are out? That leaves Darnell Mooney, Jimmy Graham, and Damiere Byrd as the only viable targets they'll have against one of the better defenses in the league. Far from ideal in a must-win game.
