Matt Nagy is always cordial during press conferences, but people forget that he's a prideful and competitive human being. He wants to win at everything he does. It's why he has success in the NFL as a coach. Right now his primary job is two-fold: make the Chicago Bears a winning team and turn quarterback Mitch Trubisky into a viable starting quarterback.
That second one has a more personal feel to it. Remember that Nagy is a former quarterback himself. He was a quarterbacks coach in Kansas City. He's supposed to know the position inside and out. The primary reason the Bears hired him was to help Trubisky become what they felt he could be. Nagy himself became a fan of the young QB before the draft last year. This project matters to him a lot.
That's why it was probably difficult for the first three weeks of the season. Trubisky was clearly struggling to acclimate to the new offensive system. He seemed flustered and couldn't settle into any sort of rhythm. That changed in week four when he exploded for six touchdown passes against Tampa Bay. A week later he followed it up with three more in Miami.
Suddenly people can't ignore Trubisky anymore, and Nagy is loving every minute of it.
