Matt Nagy Grateful the Bears Have No "Turds" On The Roster

Matt Nagy is a smart head coach. He knows that not every practice will be the same for the Chicago Bears. Sometimes the players' energy will be high and they'll run drills with efficiency. However, fatigue is an inevitable part of this game. Sometimes it's physical. Other times its mental. While Nagy understands that reality, it doesn't mean he should accept it. His job is to keep the team sharp and prevent them from getting complacent.

That is why there comes a time in practice where he and his staff have to turn up the volume. Shout a little more. Kick the players' butts so as to remind them that there is no room for weakness in this game. It appears that day finally came for the Bears on Sunday, August 11th. Coaches were heard shouting a lot during drills and players got physical despite not being in full pads.

There are certain teams that may not have reacted well to something like this. Nagy stated after practice he wasn't the least bit worried about it. Why? The players GM Ryan Pace has collected on this roster are all workers. They understand the need for an occasional kick in the butt. Nagy's exact words though only further his legend.

"They react well. … When you have high character people, they can handle that. If you have a bunch of bad people or turds, they don’t. And we don’t have turds on this team."

The guy has been a head coach for less than two years but there have already been a myriad of great sayings Nagy has delivered. "Be Obsessed." "Chasing Greatness." Now he should definitely add "No Turds On This Team" to the growing list. Crude humor aside, it's also the truth. The Bears have been diligent in their efforts to add not only talented players to their roster but ones of standout personality. Leaders and football fanatics.

That is why Nagy feels safe getting a bit nasty with them. He doesn't do it often. However, it's important to remind them that the team who stops working hard first is the team who is first to lose. They are chasing a championship. Everything is geared towards the Super Bowl. Everybody knows the talent is there. His job is to ensure they don't forget it. If he has to be the bad guy from time to time, then so be it.
