Mike Tannenbaum Confirms Drug Problem With Latest Bears Trade Idea

Anybody with common sense knows the Chicago Bears will be active on the wide receiver market this off-season. Darnell Mooney is a free agent, and nobody else on the roster seems ready to assume the second spot opposite D.J. Moore. GM Ryan Poles will have plenty of options. Free agency will feature some promising names, as will the NFL draft. However, former New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum believes the Bears can and should look into the trade market for their solution.

His idea was proposed on ESPN Get Up. It was a simple one. The Bears deal for Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs. Unfortunately, things went off the rails once he revealed what they should give up to get him.

So, let's get this straight. The Bears should give up a 23-year-old cornerback fresh off four interceptions in his rookie season for a 30-year-old player who has a reputation for being a distraction even when his team is winning. Not to mention, Diggs is set to start making $27-28 million per year for the next three seasons. Nothing about this trade idea makes a lick of sense, which makes it all the more baffling a former GM thought it up.

Mike Tannenbaum needs to stay away from Bears takes.

It's not like this guy has a track record strong enough to be taken seriously. This is the same guy who drafted Vernon Gholston 6th overall in 2008, traded up for Mark Sanchez in 2009, and Quinton Coples over Chandler Jones in 2012. It might not be wise to take his personnel assessments seriously. There is probably a reason the guy hasn't held an NFL job for the past few years, opting to fire off ludicrous takes on a once-respectable sports channel. The good news is Ryan Poles has already developed a habit of not listening to him.

Last year, Mike Tannenbaum encouraged the Bears to trade Justin Fields to take Bryce Young at #1 overall. Given how things played out, it's a good thing they didn't listen. They wouldn't have landed D.J. Moore, Darnell Wright, Stevenson, or the #1 overall pick in this draft. Diggs might still be one of the 10 best wide receivers in the league, but his peak window will start closing soon. A trade for him would be by a team set for a Super Bowl push. The Bears aren't there yet.
