For three quarters, it was too familiar for Chicago Bears fans. Mitch Trubisky couldn't seem to figure things out. He was late on reads. He was off-target on his throws and even had an inexcusable sack and fumble that led to a 4th-and-41 punt. The Detroit Lions had him and the Bears on the ropes 23-6 going into the 4th quarter.
Then stuff got crazy.
Over the next 15 minutes, Trubisky seemed to change. He started to execute on his throws. They were sharper and far more accurate. He finally got the Bears in the end zone on a 2-yard TD to Jimmy Graham.

23-13.
Fine. At least make it look a little better cosmetically. Detroit seemed ready to put it away with a long field goal on the next drive. A Matt Prater specialty. Then the 55-yard attempt sailed wide right. Five plays later, Trubisky found Javon Wims for a 3-yard touchdown. Wait. What is happening? There's no way this team is coming back. Minutes later? Kyle Fuller intercepts Matthew Stafford. Following a 5-yard David Montgomery run, Trubisky had maybe the best throw of his career on a gorgeous 27-yard strike to Anthony Miller for his third TD of the quarter. Is this real life? Chicago had against all probability won the game. Because of their quarterback.Mitch Trubisky flipped the script for at least one week
Obviously one must not get too caught up in the emotions. It was a tremendous comeback and Trubisky deserves a ton of credit for it. That was arguably the best 4th quarter a Bears quarterback has ever had. At the same time, it wouldn't have been needed if the 26-year old had played better in the first three quarters. People should not overlook how ugly that 45-minute stretch was. There is still a ton of work for this offense to do. Still, this is the kind of win that can set the tone for a season. It's also the kind of win that can instill confidence in a quarterback who was too often without it last season. Trubisky won his first-ever opening day game in thrilling fashion. Can he build on it? Here's hoping.Comments
