The Chicago Bears know how important this upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints is. With Green Bay 5-1 and Minnesota 4-2, they can't afford any schedule setbacks, especially at home. As good as the Saints have been lately, this is a game the Bears have to have. A big part of getting it to go their way would be the return of Mitch Trubisky at quarterback. Thus far the team hasn't been ready to commit to whether the starter will be active for Sunday or not.
Trubisky injured his left shoulder just minutes into the game against Minnesota three weeks ago. It was later diagnosed as a dislocation with partial tearing of his labrum. Though it was a painful experience, most agreed it wasn't the worst-case scenario by any stretch. With a few weeks off he could return to action provide the pain was manageable. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, head coach Matt Nagy indicated he's "cautiously optimistic" Trubisky can play.
So what about the quarterback himself. When asked about the status of his shoulder, he didn't dance around the question at all.
Mitch Trubisky return should help the Bears offense
While nobody will say Trubisky got off to the best start in 2019, there's no doubt his return will offer a boost on offense. Not only is he a more talented thrower than Chase Daniel, the team has really missed his ability to extend plays with his legs. Nagy himself said he will always encourage Trubisky to run provided he can avoid too many hits. For his part, the quarterback made it clear that he is not happy on the sidelines. When asked if the time there has allowed him to learn more about the system watching Chase Daniel, Trubisky demurred.
"Not really."
He feels more can be learned from playing in games than any other way. In other words, he wants to play and is doing everything in his power to make sure that is the case on Sunday.
