Mitch Trubisky's Debut Guaranteed One Thing: John Fox Will Be Fired

The Chicago Bears had so many chances to win the Mitch Trubisky debut game it's not even funny. The rookie came out firing. His passes were on target and arriving with authority. Unfortunately we all forgot the simple fact that has become so prevalent of late. John Fox is still the head coach of this team. As long as that reality remains unchanged, the people can forget about seeing progress from this team. More than ever it's become clear that Fox was the beneficiary of inheriting almost completed rosters during his runs in Carolina and Denver. He never had to face a true rebuild and showcase whether he could make a young team smarter and more disciplined. Considering this is the third year of his time in charge, it actually feels like the team has gotten worse in that department. Long story short? He's now 10-27 as head coach. So remind us again why he's still employed?

John Fox ruined the Mitch Trubisky debut

This was a game against the Vikings that Chicago should've won. They came out firing to start. Trubisky connected on seven of his first nine passes. The defense delivered a safety. Chicago also got into Minnesota territory several times in the first half and came away with no points. Why? They were constantly undone by bad penalties and dropped passes. Not to mention whiffed blocks.

Fox only made things worse with his mind-boggling game management. He failed to act decisively in going for a 4th down that resulted in having to burn a timeout. Then he instead of taking that time to set up a play he send them out on the field too late, resulting in a delay of game. Then they punted and got nothing for it. If that weren't bad enough he chose to burn a timeout in the second half right after Minnesota burned a timeout on a 1st and 19. It was puzzling then and now what in the world he was thinking. The ongoing indecisiveness of his decision-making coupled with the undisciplined, sloppy play of his players can't be ignored any longer.

Has everybody forgotten the fact Fox has never developed a rookie quarterback in his life? Ever. Don't expect any of what was seen Monday night to change. The Bears had a week and a half to prepare and they still looked like that. Blame for it falls directly at the feet of the head coach. These are the same problems that Fox was fired from Denver for. The lack of aggressiveness. The lack of awareness. Is this really the guy the Bears want charting Trubisky's future?
