A lot of Chicago Bears fans still lament two years later what could've been with the 2018 team. They felt it was good enough to win a championship. It had had the best defense in football, a power running game and an athletic young quarterback playing with a ton of confidence. Going into the playoffs they were 12-4, had home-field advantage, loads of momentum and top sports betting sites were tabbing them as a Super Bowl favorite. Yet all anybody remembers that team, for now, is the infamous Double-Doink finish. Nick Foles certainly hasn't forgotten.
It seems that Bears team left a lasting impression on the veteran quarterback. When talking to the Chicago media on Friday, just days after his trade from Jacksonville became official, he admitted the 2018 team was one of the best and toughest he ever played in his career. One that goes all the way back to 2012. In his mind, if the Philadelphia Eagles hadn't escaped that day with the win, Chicago could've marched to the Super Bowl.
Nick Foles now has a chance to succeed where Trubisky failed
The Bears certainly made life tough on Foles that day. Though sacked only once he was harassed constantly and ended up throwing two costly interceptions. If not for a shanked punt and Cody Parkey's iconic missed field goal, it's hard to imagine the Eagles would've won that game. Still, the past is the past. Chicago still has many of the players from that game on the roster and now the quarterback who beat them in the fold.
No doubt they're hoping his steady hand and championship-winning experience can be enough to finally get them over the hump. Nobody is saying he's a superstar, but his track record says he can play the position at a higher level than this franchise has seen in a long time. It's a question of whether he can stay healthy and the Bears give him a decent number of weapons to work with.
