Cole Kmet was overjoyed when he got the news the Chicago Bears had drafted him. The tight end is a Lake Barrington and Arlington Heights native. He grew up loving Brian Urlacher and Greg Olsen. So one can imagine his feelings when he became their first pick of the 2020 NFL draft. What might shock some people is just how happy Notre Dame fans were for him.
According to recent reports, people drove by his house in absurd numbers honking their horn in congratulations. They were thrilled for him, showing appreciation for what he accomplished with the Irish. Supposedly the line went on for no less than 45 minutes. That should paint a pretty clear picture of the impact he had for that university.
Aside from being a talented young man with tons of upside, it's clear he has high character to go along with it. It's becoming easier to understand why the Bears didn't hesitate picking him when they finally went on the clock. Kmet is easy to root for.
