Lance Briggs got the weekend off to an interesting start on Friday. It came when he delivered a tweet that hinted strongly at the belief the Chicago Bears are hunting for a new GM. This would suggest they are prepared to move on from Ryan Pace. Briggs isn't known for dropping scoops like that often, but he's done it before. He beat everybody to the Tony La Russa hiring by the White Sox last year. So is it serious? Olin Kreutz would have you think so.
The six-time Pro Bowl center is a partner with Briggs on the NBC Sports Chicago post-game show. Not to mention for teammates on the Bears. While he's never proclaimed himself to be an insider, the man didn't back down when asked about this tweet on 670 The Score with Parkins & Spiegel. He tried to dance around it a bit but didn't deny it.
"I'm sure he knows something and we've been hearing stuff...There's a lot of stuff you're hearing about they are looking at certain guys to be their general manager. They are looking around the league for a general manager."He was quickly pressed on whether he's heard anything about the theory that George McCaskey may choose to promote him to another position in the front office. Kreutz admitted he'd heard nothing on that before delivering the statement over again.
"That I have not heard. I have not heard that part of it, about the promotion. I just heard that they are looking for a general manager."
