Aside from other NFL teams, there weren't many people who were not overjoyed when the Chicago Bears drafted Roquan Smith. This was the caliber of inside linebacker the organization hasn't seen in years. Not since the mighty Brian Urlacher himself retired. Smith was a dominant force at Georgia, leading the program to the national championship game. Expectations are sky high under Vic Fangio's direction.
Few people are more thrilled for his success than his mother, Shaquana Thomas. Getting to watch her son rise through high school and play top tier college football for her home state's team was a joy she couldn't express in words. When the Bears called her son's name at #8 overall, everything reached a pinnacle.
However, thing cooled a bit when TMZ Sports pressed her on the thoughts of having to give up her beloved Atlanta Falcons in order to cheer for Chicago and her son on Sundays.
