The Chicago Bears aren't wasting any time at all. With Black Monday still not even over yet, the organization is moving fast to stack up head coach candidates to interview. Already Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier received a request. Then former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. Now Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will join the list. It is becoming apparent that the organization plans to explore several candidates.
The interest in him shouldn't be a surprise. Daboll has overseen the development of quarterback Josh Allen who went from a talented but raw rookie in 2018 to one of the best quarterbacks in the AFC over the past two years. He now has Buffalo in the playoffs again, winning a second straight division title. Daboll plays a central role in that success. Obviously, if he can do that for Allen, then it stands to reason he might do the same for Justin Fields.

He's worked under several excellent head coaches including Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, and Sean McDermott. He won a national championship with Alabama in 2017 and then revitalized the Bills offense over the past four seasons. His unit has finished 2nd and 3rd in consecutive years for points scored. Top 5 in total yards both years as well. People have criticized his methods at times, but they can't argue the results. He would know what must be done with Fields. The big question is whether he has the necessary leadership traits the Bears are looking for. Brian Daboll might be a quality offensive coordinator but it takes more than that to run a successful football team. It requires a certain charisma and ability to motivate. It can't all be Xs and Os. That is what George McCaskey and his people aim to find out.
