The Chicago Bears have gotten plenty of ridicule from Green Bay Packers fans over the past three years for their pick of Mitch Trubisky in 2017. This isn't a huge surprise in such a heated rivalry. The Bears made their mistake and have had to "take the L" as the saying goes. Their search for a franchise QB continues.
However, in the midst of poking so much fun at Chicago, have the Packers themselves stepped on their own Trubisky-esque land mine? It's early to say such a thing regarding Jordan Love. Yet the similarities are starting to line up in an eerie way. Both are 1st round picks their respective teams traded up to get. Both QBs were viewed by many as a major gamble.
Trubisky had good arm talent and athleticism. So does Love. Oh, and they both wear #10. Could it be possible Love shares Trubisky's faults too? Just read some of these latest updates from the Packers beat on how he's performing in practice.
"After sailing three passes way over the heads of his targets, Jordan Love finally hits Malik Turner on a post for 17 yards on third-and-8. But he sailed another one on third-and-3 from the 9 and finished his first team period just 2-of-6 for 22 yards."

Obviously Love is a rookie and certain mistakes can be excused. That being said, this is not a first-time thing. His entire training camp has been one long cringe fest. He looks nothing like the hopeful successor to a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Considering he's a 1st round pick, one would think he should at least look presentable. Instead it sounds like Love is performing more like an undrafted free agent.
Right now he's not even slated to be the primary backup to Rodgers. That job is reserved for Tim Boyle. In the long run the Packers may get the last laugh if Love develops, but it's hard to feel like this was the player they envisioned when trading up to get him. Using a 1st round pick on what was clearly a project player isn't something a team one win away from the Super Bowl probably should've done.
