The New Pope Is From Chicago And Caleb Williams Can't Handle It

The Pope has been a staple of the Christian religion since the first century AD. Saint Peter was the first. Since then, there have been 266 Popes. In that time, none have come from the continent of North America. That changed for the first time in history when the Catholic cardinals elected Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Pope, replacing the deceased Francis. Yet that isn't the part many people nationwide can't get over. It is that Prevost was born in Chicago, Illinois. Of all he places for the first American Pope to come from, it's the Windy City. Needless to say, the responses from Bears fans have been equal parts shock, delight, and hilarious. None are having a better time with it than Caleb Williams.

Chicago's young quarterback welcomed Prevost, now Leo XIV, in the only way a Bears representative could.

It didn't stop there. Upon hearing the news, fans got creative with Photoshop, decking Leo out in ceremonial robes emblazoned with Bears logos. Williams couldn't get enough of it.

Caleb Williams does seem to have God on his side lately.

If you don't believe it, look at what the Bears have accomplished over the past two months. They secured two Pro Bowl guards via trade in March and followed that by signing the top center in free agency. They added two pass-catching weapons at tight end (Colston Loveland) and wide receiver (Luther Burden) in the draft a month later. That is before getting into the miracle they pulled off by luring Ben Johnson away from Detroit to become the Bears' latest head coach. It felt like divine intervention at the time. Maybe the football gods were dropping hints.

For the longest time, it felt like an act of God was needed to get the quarterback position right for this franchise. Maybe he finally threw us a bone. Caleb Williams is positioned better than anybody in modern history to ascend to elite status in this city. Maybe he should schedule a meeting with the new Pope just in case. Don't forget he attended the 2005 World Series when the White Sox won it all. He can clearly work miracles.
