Even though its peak years are gone, The Simpsons remains one of the best comedic shows of all-time. Even in their later years they find ways to make biting commentary on all sorts of real life subjects. One of their favorites in recent years is none other than the Detroit Lions. Two years ago they aired an episode where they claimed every sports story has an upside.
"Unless you're a Detroit Lions fan."
Ouch. Well it seems some people didn't appreciate that. Did that stop the show writers? Of course it didn't. They simply boded their time, waiting for an opportunity to poke the bear again. That finally came in episode 21 of their 30th season. Lisa became trapped across the Canadian border after falling into Niagra Falls.
Her family jumps into action to get her back. After reuniting across the Detroit River, they begin searching for a way they can sneak back across to America. Homer knows of one place with plenty of room. That's when the Lions skewer is delivered.
That's ice cold. Both because it's harsh and sadly true. The Lions haven't won a playoff game since 1991 and a championship since 1957. Last season was a colossal disappointment, finishing last in the division yet again. Something they thought they'd escaped having watched the Chicago Bears take over in that area the past few years.
Lions fans may not enjoy being the focal point of such cruel jokes, but then again this is the result of not always being the most cordial folks in regards to their conduct. Perhaps the best thing for them to do is behave and hope their team finally learns how to win consistently.
