This Analogy Nails Mitch Trubisky Better Than Any You'll Ever Hear

Chicago Bears fans have had it rough for a long time. They've been so starved for a quarterback that any time one plays well, they start contemplating the idea of maybe this guy can be the future. It doesn't matter who that quarterback is. They've done it with all of them. Mitch Trubisky is just the latest. He's yanked them in every possible direction for four years now. People should know what he is by this point. Yet many still hold out hope. Maybe he really is like Drew Brees. A quarterback who experienced a slow start to his career but exploded after his first few seasons to become a Hall of Famer. The great fear of many is that Trubisky will leave in 2021, go to another team and the coaching staff there will magically transform him into the quarterback he should've been in Chicago.

So yeah. It is tough being a Bears fan.

Should the team at least consider keeping Trubisky one more year? Arguments out there call for it. It's likely Chicago will be drafting somewhere in the middle of the 1st round. A sort of No Man's Land for picking quarterbacks over the years. Rather than try reaching for one, why not use this draft to bolster the offense in general and run it back one more time with Trubisky? If it doesn't work, move on in 2022. The difficult logistics of that idea aside, plenty of people think it would be a waste of time. Kyle Brandt is a host of Good Morning Football on NFL Network. He's also a dedicated Bears fan. During a conversation on The Rich Eisen Show, he was asked if he too is considering the idea of giving the 26-year old quarterback another chance. His response was sheer perfection. Mitch Trubisky has proven nothing to this point

Beating up on bad defenses is something he's always been able to do. Remember his fabled Tampa Bay Buccaneers game in 2018? That was one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Lions routinely have a bottom-dwelling defense. So it's not an accident Trubisky has elite stats against them. Houston's defense is also among the worst in 2020. The last time he played an actual good defense was Week 2 against the Giants. He threw for 190 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mitch Trubisky is the epitome of purgatory QB. He'll do just fine against bad teams but when the time comes to show up against the good ones? He always disappears. Look at his record against the Packers. That is all the evidence one really needs to understand he isn't the guy. He's a good kid who works hard and gives it everything he has.

Sometimes everything a guy has just isn't enough.

Maybe Trubisky will find success down the road. Odds are he'll end up being a quality backup quarterback for a long time. The Bears can't afford to waste any more time waiting on him. It's been four years. They need to move on to the next guy.
