Mitch Trubisky isn't feeling all that great these days. It's hard to blame him. The poor guy has been through a lot in the past few months. He finished a rough season in 2019. Then he found out his starting job would be up for grabs when the Chicago Bears traded for Nick Foles. Rather than get a normal offseason to prepare, Trubisky is forced to improvise thanks to COVID-19.
Despite no minicamps or OTAs, the 26-year old puts in a ton of extra work and wins the ensuing competition. He goes on to lead a huge 4th quarter comeback on opening day and does just enough to beat the Giants in Week 2. Then after two and a half brutal quarters in Atlanta punctuated by a horrific interception, he finds himself on the bench for the first time in three years.
Then just for good measure, Nick Foles led a huge comeback to steal the game. In the days since then, Trubisky is left to contemplate where it all went wrong. People have their opinions, but for the most part, the critics have at least been kind. Letting him deal with the disappointment.
Well, not all of them have. News media outlet The Onion, known for their satirical takes on all things news, is most famous for their hilarious, sharp, and often brutal headlines.
They certainly saved a nasty one for Trubisky after being benched.
