Thomas Brown has endured a month that almost no coach in NFL history has ever experienced. He arrived last January to become the Chicago Bears passing game coordinator. That job remained stable through the summer and into September and October. Then, Shane Waldron was fired as offensive coordinator. Brown was asked to step in, and he accepted. Three weeks later, Matt Eberflus was also fired. Again, the team asked him to step in. Again, he accepted. Just like that, Brown had gone from minimal offensive assistant to Bears head coach.
The challenge never intimidated Brown. He always carries himself with a degree of self-confidence. He believes in his work ethic and attention to detail. However, he soon realized those promotions came with some consequences. He shared the biggest one with Bears media at his Wednesday press conference. Since getting promoted to offensive coordinator, he has lost 22 lbs.

You know a guy is different when he's so dedicated to his job that he forgets to eat. Andy Reid and Mike McCarthy clearly don't have that problem. They often say good head coaches are obsessed with their jobs. They'll forgo going home in favor of staying at the facility to continue game planning, always looking for an edge. If what Thomas Brown says is true, he seems to have that same mindset. Being so laser focused on your work that you don't it is unhealthy, but also a sign the job matters to you. Brown comes across as a maniacal competitor. This revelation is proof of that. It is difficult to say what will happen over the final five games. The young coach was given a raw deal of circumstances. Still, he fully plans to go down swinging. That is all anybody could ask of him.
