VIDEO: Allen Robinson Reveals How Brutal His COVID Battle Was

Allen Robinson has had one of the most forgettable seasons of his career. If it's not one problem, it's another with him. It started off with having to get franchise tagged. Something he did everything in his power to prevent. From there, things only seemed to get worse. Through the first nine games of the season, he caught just 30 passes for 339 yards and a touchdown. The worst start of his career not including his rookie season. Then when things finally seemed to start clicking in Pittsburgh, he tweaked his hamstring. Forced out for the next four games, he finally returned in Green Bay. After a forgettable performance (2 catches for 14 yards), the next gut-punch arrived in the form of contracting COVID-19. Thus he missed another two weeks battling the virus. Following the dramatic win in Seattle, the Bears activated the receiver off the reserve list. Given a chance to speak to the media, Robinson revealed just how taxing it was. Wow. Losing 10 lbs in two weeks is hard to do.

Especially for an athlete of Robinson's conditioning. That speaks to what the virus did to his appetite and how hard his body had to work to handle the illness. It is fair to wonder how much help the receiver will be able to offer the final two games of the season. Bears fans might remember back in 2014 when Jared Allen came down with pneumonia during the season. He lost 20 lbs in that fight and was never himself the rest of the year. Allen Robinson might face the same challenge. No doubt he'd like to finish strong in order to give his sagging free agency stock a boost. The fact he is coming back to play at all should be commended. With the playoffs no longer possible, he could easily make a case for just shutting it down for the rest of the year. Instead, he agreed to return and help his team finish it out despite his condition. Commendable. Good on him for that. The Bears play the New York Giants on Sunday. It remains to be determined which quarterback Robinson will catch passes from between Nick Foles or Justin Fields.
