All the talk going into the bye week will be about Justin Fields. That is perfectly understandable. He is coming off the best game of his career to date. Accounting for 338 total yards including 291 through the air and throwing a touchdown with two minutes to play that should've been the game-winner. However, people should not overlook it was also a career game for another prominent Chicago Bears offensive player. Cole Kmet.
People have waited for the 2nd round pick in 2020 to show any signs that he can be a viable option at tight end. His rookie season was somewhat disappointing from a production standpoint. Things didn't get off to the best start this season either. Through the first four games, Kmet had just eight catches for 59 yards. However, things have begun to pick up. His connection with Fields is growing and it blossomed more than ever in Pittsburgh to the tune of six catches for 87 yards. They were in sync all night.

It was the latest indication that Kmet can indeed be a receiving threat.
Sure he might not be as explosive as others in the league, but he is big enough, strong enough, and athletic enough to create mismatches in coverage. Now that he has a quarterback who can get him the football? People have begun to realize this. Including the two men themselves. Cameras caught them sharing a pretty cool moment after the Bears' unfortunate loss. The tight end found his QB after the final whistle and had a simple message. One that Fields echoed in total agreement. They didn't seem like a pair of players who were discouraged. Instead, two young guys that know they're getting better and are on the cusp of something big. Cole Kmet showed great leadership at that moment, encouraging his quarterback to keep working. Fields not only agreed but promised that they're close to breaking out. A great sign that these two are in total sync and that connection should continue to produce moving forward.Comments
