Von Miller will be in the Hall of Fame after he retires. He's one of the best pass rushers of his generation. In his long career, he's played against the best quarterbacks, from Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers to Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. He knows what the good ones are supposed to look like. It is why he chose to sign with the Buffalo Bills this past off-season. He knew how good Allen was and wanted to join that rocket ship, hoping to chase a third ring. Now his team is preparing to visit a frigid Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears and Justin Fields.
Miller himself can't play due to a knee injury. That said, he's stayed involved with the team. Fields is somebody he has known about for some time. Miller was an avid admirer of Ohio State in recent years. He saw what the Bears quarterback did in college. Now he is seeing the same things happen in the NFL. Miller expressed admiration for Fields' progress this year on The Voncast. Where it gets even more exciting is how high he thinks the young signal-caller can soar if given enough help.
Von Miller can't ignore what his eyes are telling him.
Fields continues to produce at least one or two plays every week that spin your head around. He's that dynamic. He is doing it with one of the worst supporting casts in the NFL, which makes it even more impressive. That is why Miller seems confident of the trajectory he predicted. If Chicago can provide adequate weapons and a solid offensive line, it is scary how much better Fields could become. Many see him as a bigger and stronger Lamar Jackson with a better arm.
That should have Bears fans excited. Even they can sense something is building. They've never felt this way about a quarterback before. Jay Cutler got the closest, but even he always had drawbacks that made it hard to go all in. Fields is silencing doubters with each passing week. Von Miller must be grateful he at least won have to chase the quarterback around an arctic Soldier Field for three hours on Sunday. Hopefully, the Bears quarterback will showcase more of what the star defender sees.
