The Chicago Bears made their first big splash of 2020 when they reeled in veteran Robert Quinn on a new five-year deal. This spelled the end of the Leonard Floyd era and gave the defense a substantial jolt to its pass rush. Jimmy Graham also adds some help on offense, if not the giant upgrade at tight end people were hoping for. Yet the big question mark remains. What are they going to do at quarterback?
After initial buzz that they might try to sign Teddy Bridgewater, that has since died away as the QB headed off to Carolina. The NFL world awaits the decision by Tom Brady after he declared his intention to leave New England. Most seem to believe the list of options for Chicago has narrowed to two. Nick Foles in Jacksonville and Andy Dalton in Cincinnati. Both are reportedly available via trade.
Everybody has their opinions on who it will be. So what about the oddsmakers in Las Vegas? According to FanDuel, the Bears are now the favorites to land none other than former MVP Cam Newton.
Chicago Bears and Cam Newton? That would be something
With Bridgewater landing in Carolina, it's a virtual certainty that Newton is gone. He made that clear when he challenged the narrative that the team "granted" him permission to seek a trade. More like forced him to in his mind. Most believe it now won't cost much in compensation to get him. Some even think he might get cut outright. This would be a huge opportunity for the Bears, provided the 30-year old is healed from the foot injury that ended his season last year.
When healthy, he is a force under center. There are also reports from last November that he would "welcome" the idea of coming to Chicago. That would make sense. It features a coaching staff loaded with QB-centric voices. It's in a much bigger market than Carolina could offer with a rich African-American community. They also have a stacked defense and a #1 wide receiver in Allen Robinson as well.
Plenty to like from his perspective.
