Jay Cutler didn't have the career in Chicago he wishes he could've. He came close. From 2010 to 2011, he played some of the most inspiring football Bears fans have seen from a quarterback in decades. He got them to the NFC championship and then was playing like an MVP contender the next season before a thumb injury ruined everything. After that, he seemed to hover between good weeks and bad weeks for the rest of his time here.
Part of that was his own doing given his notorious streaky play. However, the Bears were also to blame. They spent far too long failing at building a proper offense around the quarterback. They moved between three different head coaches and six different offensive coordinators. For long stretches, his best wide receivers were Devin Hester, Roy Williams, Earl Bennett, and Johnny Knox. All okay players but hardly what one would call game-breaking threats.
So one can imagine he's a tiny bit jealous at the inventory of weapons GM Ryan Pace has assembled over the past couple of years. Appearing on Waddle & Silvy of ESPN 1000, the quarterback was asked an interesting question. If given a choice of anybody on the current Bears offense, who would he like to play with the most?
Cutler's answer had little hesitation.
"Probably 2-9 (Tarik Cohen)...I mean I like Allen (Robinson) too. With 2-9 you can do so much with him. I mean you can put him anywhere. He's just one of those guys that can make or break a game in a lot of different spots. He's fun to watch."

Leave it to a quarterback to recognize the right players. Cohen is easily one of the most dangerous offensive weapons the Bears have. He's not only a threat to pop big plays on the ground. He is just as dangerous when going out for a pass. However, what probably clinched it in Cutler's eyes is Tarik's reputation as a teammate. Not only is he a locker room leader and hard worker, he's legitimately entertaining. The guy is so funny.
Who doesn't want to hang around somebody like that? Even now a lot of fans are wondering what Cutler might've looked like in this sort of offense. His mobility and willingness to attack down the field would've meshed well with Matt Nagy's philosophy. Then there would be Cohen, Allen Robinson, David Montgomery, Taylor Gabriel, and Javon Wims as targets. Better than almost anything he had for most of his run with the team.
It would've been interesting if nothing else.
