The NFL offseason is in dark mode for the time being. This has allowed the emergence of the XFL, freshly reborn after its dismal failure back in 2001, to try making spring football a thing again. The first game of this new league year took place between the Seattle Dragons and the D.C. Defenders in the nation's capital. Right away it was clear that that the league was trying to implement some new ideas on the field from a revamped kickoff rule to the mandatory 2-point conversion attempts.
One idea though that might have to get discussed in the near future is one where sideline reporters are allowed to talk with both players and coaches following big plays during a game. Anybody who understands how tempers flare during competitive sports will know it's only a matter of time before somebody loses control of their better judgment and says something they shouldn't.
Sure enough, it only took a quarter and a half for that to happen. Following a play by Seattle that went for minimal yardage, there was a dustup after the whistle that resulted in Dragons center Dillon Day being called for a personal foul. When the sideline reporter found him to ask what happened, he didn't hold back in his response.
